John Hayden and his company, Jamtown™, celebrate a worldwide love for music and adventure travel ~ since 1995.
He is a pioneer in the field of ‘accessible music’ that features hands-on participation for all ages and skill levels. This ‘everybody can play’ approach is popular in schools, camps & professional settings. Depending on the intention of the event, John develops links between the personal music experience, the group dynamics, organizational issues or important lessons such as multicultural awareness or diversity.
His workshops have delivered in-the-moment musical excitement throughout the Northwest including the Experience Music Project (now MOPOP), Bumbershoot, Northwest Folklife, WOMAD Music Festivals, and Seattle Libraries to mention a few. He produces the Northwest Folklife Rhythm Tent Stage, since 2004 and leads free ‘Green Lake Jam’ recreational drumming events during the summer. He teaches ongoing adult hand drum and tots music classes, and is waiting to hear from you to lead your next musical birthday!
His background includes multiple 6-day trainings with with Arthur Hull and Village Music Circles. He is a long-time member of the Drum Circle Facilitators Guild (DCFG) and has studied with many teachers in the Seattle area. Following the birth of his daughter in 2007 he attended a weekend workshop with toddler music specialists. Soon after, he began teaching parent/toddler classes ~now one of his greatest passions along with writing kids music.
